The Orientation Intake Survey results in a better advising appointment during Orientation and prompts students to assess confidence in their intended major such that they receive guidance on making a purposeful choice before they even register for classes.

Support student success through-
Advising Redesign which includes Faculty Mentoring. All Freshmen at GSC are assigned a professional advisor and faculty mentor. Advisors and faculty mentors work together to deploy touchpoints for each student.
Retention and graduation rates have increased nationally due to the implementation and design of well-crafted program maps with an emphasis on students taking fuller schedules categorized by the 15-to-finish initiative. Gordon State College made early efforts to create program maps with co-curricular milestones using the theme of Gordon’s Highlander EDGE. After careful review we noticed that some of the program maps had not been pressure tested and we have now determined a plan to carefully review, and pressure test our program maps annually.
Laura M. Gambino is the associate dean for assessment and technology and professor of information technology at Guttman Community College (CUNY). She joined Guttman as an inaugural faculty member in August 2012. In her current role as associate dean, Gambino oversees academic technology initiatives, including the College’s institution-wide ePortfolio program and the Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success (iPASS) initiative. She serves as principal investigator for Guttman’s US DOE Title V grant, EDUCAUSE/Achieving the Dream iPASS grant, and GradNYC College Completion Innovation Fund grant. She also leads the assessment of Guttman’s institutional student learning outcomes, focusing on the intersection of assessment, pedagogy, and assignment design.
Prior to joining Complete College America, Nikolas worked as the Associate Director for First-Year and Transition Programs with the Office of Student Success at Georgia State University. In this role, he coordinated, assessed, and scaled all success and retention initiatives for incoming first-year students at the bachelor’s and associate’s degrees, including learning communities, summer bridge, peer mentors, first-year seminar, assessment, and first-generation students.
