2018 Advising Academy

2018 Advising Academy

September 20, 2018 to September 21, 2018
Evergreen Conference Center, Stone Mountain

The University System will convene the 2018 Advising Academy at the Atlanta Evergreen Conference Resort at Stone Mountain Park on September 20-21.  This year’s Advising Academy will focus on supporting successful student transition to college, investigating the ways institutions serve a diverse group as they navigate the steps from application through the completion of their Momentum Year.  This broader scope is intended to encourage a conversation about the numerous transition points students encounter and how to best manage them in order to support their success in the institution.

  PRELIMINARY AGENDA

The Academy will be an opportunity for teams from your institution to reflect upon and plan for improvements to the way students transition on your campus.  Each institution is asked to assemble a team of eight members to include:

  • Vice President for Academic Affairs,
  • Vice President for Student Affairs,
  • Director of Advising,
  • Regents Advisory Council on Academic Advising representative,
  • Directors of Orientation/Transitional Studies, and
  • Other faculty or front-line staff with responsibilities for transition activities.

Teams should be coordinated through the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Institutions interested in sending larger teams or with questions about the event should contact Jonathan Watts Hull directly at jonathan.hull@usg.edu or 404-962-3129. Institutions can register their team using this link. A room block has been reserved at the Evergreen Conference Center; details will be sent to meeting registrants in early August.
