2019 USG Advising Academy
The University System will convene the 2019 Advising Academy at the University of West Georgia’s Student Center on October 4, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. This year’s Advising Academy will focus on supporting successful student transition to college and the integration of purposeful choice, investigating the ways institutions serve a diverse group as they navigate the steps from application through the completion of their Momentum Year. This broader scope is intended to encourage a conversation about the numerous transition points students encounter and how to best manage them in order to support their success in the institution.
The Academy will be an opportunity for teams from your institution to reflect upon and plan for improvements to the way students transition on your campus. Each institution is asked to assemble a team of five members to include:
- Director of Advising,
- Enrollment Management Directors,
- Regents Advisory Council on Academic Advising representative,
- Directors of Orientation/Transitional Studies, and
- Other faculty or front-line staff with responsibilities for transition activities.
Teams should be coordinated through the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Institutions interested in sending larger teams or with questions about the event should contact Jonathan Watts Hull directly at jonathan.hull@usg.edu or 404-962-3129.
