2020 Motivating Learners Short Course [Pilot]

This year the USG is developing a brief professional development program to help faculty support the development of growth mindsets among their students including and brief introductory course and a two-week short course.

Once you've completed the Motivating Learners Virtually Mini-course, you will be invited to join in a more in depth, moderated course to further develop your use of Learning Mindset-supportive practices in your classes.

This mostly asynchronous pilot course will feature more in depth exploration of how to integrate Learning Mindset-supportive practices into your teaching and an opportunity to explore ways to embed these concepts at the very start of your classes. Participation in this initial pilot of the short course will be limited to 30 registrants. Registration is available through the mini-course.

The course picks up from where the introductory mini-course ends, with professional development and engagement crafted by our partners at Motivate Lab.

To assess the impact of the work on you and your students, we also ask that you:

  • Complete a pre-survey (~25 minutes) before beginning the course.
  • Administer a ~10-minute survey to your students at the beginning of the semester.
  • Participate in a focus group at the beginning of October (~90 minutes).
  • Administer a ~10-minute survey to your students at the end of the semester.
  • Complete a post-survey (~25 minutes) at the beginning of December.
